When Are We Going Home?

My grandmother, Joyce, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease eight years ago. After watching her slow decline in mental and physical health, I am forced to ask myself questions concerning my future and the future of my family. Will I be like her? Will my loved ones and I suffer the same fate? With the knowledge that this disease can very well develop in any individual from my grandmother’s bloodline, I am choosing to express my emotions, my family’s struggle in caring for my grandmother, as well as her inevitable loss. My body of work illustrates aspects of my grandmother’s daily life and the emotions created from watching her slip away. The work and I are entangled.
